New Book on the Mobile Campaign

Unfortunately, it isn’t the book that I’m working on, but Paul Brueske’s “Digging all night and fighting all day: the Civil War Siege of Spanish Fort and the Mobile Campaign, 1865” is an excellent, and much needed,  book that focuses on one of the last major battles of the Civil War.  Released just last year, Mr. Brueske takes a deep dive into the siege using a wealth of on-point primary sources and I highly recommend it.

For those of your primarily interested in the 49th Missouri, it doesn’t have anything really new on the regiment with its only mention being an oft-told story regarding their first exposure to cannon-fire.  However, I can’t blame him for that since there is extremely limited information available on the role of the 49th at Spanish Fort.  Currently, I’m actually working on that part of the regiment’s history in my book and making my usual very slow, but steady progress.
